Whirlpool EP is The Prayer Chain's debut for record label Reunion. It has versions of a selection of songs from their indepentently released album The Neverland Sessions remixed by Steve Griffith. It was released in 1992.

Griffith pushed to include his favorite Neverland Sessions song Follow This on the record, but the band decided against it. In 2018, bassist Eric Campuzano said "the record label hand-picked the songs... but they probably picked the right ones".

In 1995, drummer Wayne Everett described it as "a young band record. We're out there, we're gonna save the world."

In contrast to the rest of the band's releases (including their independent releases), the album had little input from producer Steve Hindalong.

In later reflections on the Whirlpool EP, the band felt the earlier versions of the songs were the superior recordings. They also distanced themselves from this sound and the songs themselves with their next release Shawl, proclaiming "Shine is dead" in album opener Crawl.
